Weather is a constant and changes all the time. We are subject to different types of weather from the artic cold to blistering hot depending what time of year it is. Here in central Florida we have many times where we will see and encounter thunderstorms. Thunderstorms come mostly in the summer time when the weather is hot, and humid, but we still have the opportunity to have these during the fall, winter, and spring. If you live in Orlando, Tampa, Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne Beach, or any other town or city you can expect to have this happen at some point in time.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/thunderstorms-lightning-you-and-how-to-be-safe.htmlThu, 10 Mar 2011 09:31:13 GMT2011-03-10T09:31:13Thunderstorms, Lightning, You, and How to Be SafeWeather and surf go hand in hand like peanut butter and chocolate. If it wasn't for weather, we would not have surf. Do to this, we must understand how it affects us and our interaction with the surf. We get surf from wind. The stronger the winds directly onshore or out in the ocean from tropical systems, the bigger and stronger the surf is. We have seasons of the year, spring, summer, fall, and winter. These parts of the year have different types of weather, therefore, having different affects on the surf conditions.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/how-the-weather-affects-the-surf.htmlFri, 25 Feb 2011 14:46:41 GMT2011-02-25T14:46:41How the weather affects the surfSUP is now a craze here in Florida. The proper use of the paddle, and board is one which we teach on a regular basis. Proper use and paddle position is first. When I first started and tried out SUPing, my brain said to turn the paddle like I was scooping water with the blade facing the tail of the board, This was not the correct way. The correct position is with the blade facing the nose of the paddle board. After trying it, I did see how I was able to work better with the board when it came to catching and riding waves.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/how-to-sup-correctly-paddle-use-and-catching-waves.htmlThu, 20 Jan 2011 18:41:58 GMT2011-01-20T18:41:58How to SUP correctly, paddle use, and catching wavesAs long as surfing has been real popular (1960's and later) surfers have to be aware of others in the lineup or in the ocean. The pop up or hop up is a full range motion that takes a person from lying down in a prone position (face down) to standing erect (upright) in a surfer's stance over your feet. You took a lesson or borrowed a friends board and now want to buy one for yourself. Buying an SUP is a costly purchase and should be done wisely. When it comes to an SUP there are many things to take into consideration. One is the size of the person. Two is the experience of the person who will paddle on the SUP. Three is the conditions that the SUP will be used in. In most cases where an SUP will be used is flat water. The majority of SUP's will be used on water that is not really moving, lakes, slow streams, and maybe a flat ocean. When it comes to buying your new or used SUP there are a few things to take into cosideration. Most surf or SUP shops will carry a few of the many brands that are available. Most locations will allow you to test drive an SUP to see how you like it. Schools teach and introduce newbees on how to use the paddle and how to work with the SUP before a purchase is needed. Many people go to the beach, especially during the summer months. As swimmers you should always swim near a lifeguard, but all the beaches are not guarded. In some locations around the world the beach is patrolled each and everyday. During the summer, more lifeguard stands are up to keep up the demand for ocean rescues. But what happens if you go to an unguarded beach?http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/how-to-swim-out-of-a-rip-current.htmlSat, 14 Aug 2010 15:22:20 GMT2010-08-14T15:22:20How to swim out of a rip currentSo you want to surf? Packing your board(s) can make the difference between being ready for the first day's surf or having to see the local ding repair specialist. Most surfers don't understand that the airline baggage monkeys, who get paid a low wage, don't care about your boards. I've heard stories about one traveler had his longboard being stood on so they could load the cargo hold on the plane.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/how-to-pack-you-surfboards-for-a-surfing-trip-by-airline.htmlWed, 04 Aug 2010 15:31:43 GMT2010-08-04T15:31:43How to pack you surfboards for a surfing trip by airlineYou now have your first board and you need to get it out into the lineup so you can catch waves and surf. Here's some valuable information that will help assist you in getting your board into the ocean and through the surf. First is to make you hand into a paddle shape like the paddle on the canoe. Reach forward towards the nose and push your hand down in the water and pull back along the rail. Midway the pulling motion will become a pushing motion to complete one paddle cycle. Repeat with the other hand many times to get the board moving.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/how-to-paddle-your-board-into-the-lineup.htmlWed, 28 Jul 2010 14:41:51 GMT2010-07-28T14:41:51How to paddle your board into the lineupSo you are going out of the US on a surfing trip. Here are some things that you should know before you go. Always be attentive, do not carry your wallet in your back pocket at any time (master pickpockets are waiting for you). Take a photo copy of your passport while hiding the original safely. Be courteous and polite to the locals, (do not act arrogant), smile and say hello (Ola in Spanish). Be aware of your surrounding, thieves see all americans as money. Lodging should be done in a place with security, day and night (costs a little more but well worth it). Go in groups, never travel at night alone (possible muggars, rapists, thieves).http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/tips-for-traveling-into-foreign-countries.htmlTue, 27 Jul 2010 16:33:26 GMT2010-07-27T16:33:26Tips for traveling into foreign countriesSo it's time to purchase your first surfboard after taking a lesson or a surf camp. Here are some things that you should know before spending a small fortune to get that new or used surfboard. First is that the sales staff at your local surf shop may make the best call, even though they do not know what you did in the water. Little new surfers tend to go to their knees before feet. Huh, this poses a problem for proper position on the board, so a slightly longer board than arms length overhead should be used. If you can pop right to your feet you can adjust the length down just a little.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/surfboard-buyers-guide.htmlTue, 27 Jul 2010 16:08:09 GMT2010-07-27T16:08:09Buying your first surfboardWaxing your surf board properly is very important to maximizing your surfing skill. A well waxed board can be the difference between standing and slipping, glory and defeat, wellness and injury. Surf wax is sold in many different brands, but all are water temperature based. Read the label and use the correct wax for the different water temps.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/how-to-wax-your-surfboard.htmlWed, 23 Jun 2010 23:02:17 GMT2010-06-23T23:02:17How To: Wax Your SurfboardRegardless of whether you are a beginner or a pro, you're going to ding your surfboard. Rip currents are powerful, channeled water currents flowing away from shore into the open ocean. They typically extend from the shoreline, to the surf zone, and past the breakers, and into deeper water. Rip currents can occur at any beach with breaking waves. Rip currents cause more deaths in Florida than lightning. If caught in a rip current, do not swim directly to the shore, swim either from north to south, or south to north depending on the drift current. Most drift currents are from south to north during the summer months. Use caution whenever entering the water, and always swim near a lifeguard.http://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles/rip-currents-how-to-stay-safe-at-the-beach.htmlWed, 23 Jun 2010 22:07:07 GMT2010-06-23T22:07:07Rip Currents - How to Stay Safe At The Beachhttp://www.surfguyssurf.com/articles.rssSurfguys Surf SchoolFri, 18 Jun 2010 18:12:59 GMTen-us
